Bromley 1 Bishops Stortford 0 – BSS – 24/03/09
Bromley got back to winning ways with a single goal victory against an in-form Stortford side who dominated the play in the second half, but couldn’t get past The Ravens defence.
The game started with both sides having chances Green & Wright going close for the visitors and McBean & Sobers doing likewise for Bromley. McBean had two more chances as the half went on but neither side really looked like scoring and the ball spent more time above the floodlights than on the grass.
The second half saw Stortford dominate long spells of play, but the home defence stood up well to the pressure and Bromley looked dangerous on the break. Stone hit the post with a great effort before McBean put The Ravens in front on the hour. Stortford Eyre failed to grasp a long ball and McBean headed the ball away from his clutched before bringing it down and finding the corner of the net for 1-0. Stortford had another spell on dominance with Williams making two great saves from Prestedge & Harris. Mark Goldberg made some defensive substitutions and switched to 4-5-1, but they still posed a threat on the break with Corneille & Stone both going close before the end. This was a hard thought ground out win with Harding & Sobers having exceptional games.
Quote for the game, ‘I thought you were a good footballing side Stortford!’ – Mark.
